Up One Help Page Creating Remote Gadget Packages

Create a Remote Gadget Package to allow other portal managers to import multiple Remote Gadgets with the same settings you have used to register these Gadgets.

To create a Remote Gadget Package, click Gadgets | Create Remote Gadget Package.


General Info

This page allows you to some general information about this Gadget Package.

In the Name box, enter a name for your Gadget Package. This will be the name of the XML file that other portal manager's will import. Because this XML file will be accessed from the Web you must enter a name without any spaces or other characters that cannot be included in a URL.

In the Description box, enter a description that clarifies the purpose of this Gadget Package to other portal managers.

In the Publisher Name box, enter the person to contact with any questions about this Gadget Package.

Select the Gadget Package Type:

  • If the Gadgets and Gadget Servers will have different base URLs on the importing portal server than they do on this portal server, select Deployment. For example, select this option if you are creating Gadgets for a portal deployment other than your own.
  • If the Gadgets and Gadget Servers will have the same base URLs on the importing portal servers as they do on this portal server, select Migration. For example, select this option if you are a portal administrator planning to install another instance of a portal within your network. You might need to do this if you are moving your portal from a development environment to a production environment.

Choose Gadgets

This page allows you to select the Gadgets you want to add to this Gadget Package.

To add a Gadget to this package:

  1. To browse the Gadgets associated with a particular Gadget Server, click the name of that Gadget Server. If the Gadget is not associated with a Gadget Server, click Gadgets with No Gadget Server.
  2. Select the Gadgets you want from that category, and then click Add to My Gadget Package.
  3. To add Gadgets from other categories, repeat steps 1 and 2.
  4. When you have added all the Gadgets you want, click Next.

Note: To see what a Gadget looks like, click Preview.

The Gadgets selected for this package are displayed on the right. To delete a Gadget from this list, click Remove.


Review Package

This page allows you to review the Gadgets you have selected to include in this Gadget Package. After you have confirmed that the correct Gadgets have been selected, click Finish to create the package. The location of the Gadget Package file is displayed.

If necessary, move this package to the location you want to use to download the package. If you are not the person who will import the Gadget Package, inform the person who will import the Gadget Package as to its location.
